Given that there are an estimated 21,000 excess deaths from lung cancer associated with exposure to radon, how would you develop a national awareness campaign? Name some of your potential collaborators (stakeholders).
In order to develop a national awareness campaign I think it is very important to contact public entities who are trying to achieve the same goals. For example, we want to reduce lung cancer within our population so it is important to reach out to local government agencies in areas where radon exposure is a big issue. I would also recruit different volunteers for example some from the public health sector as well as some from their own communities. This would allow there to be a mix of people with various levels of knowledge regarding the issue. It would also convince the community that we are there to help as we are enlisted their own neighbors whom they may trust. Educating people is also very important when it comes to trying to bring awareness. One way to do this is by having monthly meetings at a community center to discuss the issue, how to test for it, and how to make the issue better. I strongly believe that when information is provided to people in a manner in which they can relate, they are more receptive to the information.

I like your idea to collaborate with people with similar goals. Working with people towards a common goal is a great foundation for creating change in one's community.
ReplyDeleteI agree! You and chris are spot on. Collaborative work is a great way to accomplish similar goals. I think that is a great foundation to accomplish your goals.
