Household Products

One of the household products that I decided to look up was the Arm & Hammer Cat Litter because this is something I use all the time since I have a cat. For some reason I did not even consider that litter could be carcinogenic although I know most things are. The main danger related to litter that was posted in the Household Product Base was that may cause cancer and organ damage due to inhalation of the product over a long period of time. After reading through the information provided, I decided that I wanted to take a closer look at other cat litters and see if there are any better options. I definitely think everyone should know what the effects of this particular cat litter are. This is such a major brand and I know many people who use it for their cats. I think there should be some type of warning on the box regarding the health hazards of using this litter.
The second household item that I looked up was Glade Plug-ins. I use these a lot to make my room smell really good. While reading through the product base, I found that the most dangerous thing about these plug ins is that they are flammable. They are also concerned with it being irritating to the eyes and skin. Though it may be irritating to some, thus far I haven’t had any negative effects from using it, however I do keep it at a distance from myself and my bed. I don’t think that I would change this product because it doesn’t seem as dangerous as others. I think there should be a warning for people who are more susceptible to skin irritations regarding this product but it seems pretty safe for the general public.

  1. Hi, Vanessa!

Back home in the Philippines, we started using chicken (or was it pig) feed for our cats' litter box. If I remember correctly, we tried the Arm & Hammer variety, too. However, I am not sure when we stopped using it, if we did at all. It can get a little alarming, especially since these products are particle-based. I agree that companies should be more open to putting warnings on their products.
    Thank you for your post!

  2. Hi Vanessa,
I think it is crazy that a product that is supposed to eliminate odors and promote cleanliness can actually severely harm us. Thanks for sharing.
