M8.3 Pesticides

What did you find out about the pesticide residues that may be in or on your food? What do you think about this? What should we be doing about this in terms of public health, not just in terms of our personal choices?

Yesterday for dinner I had chicken thighs. I was extremely shocked to find out how many pesticides were in this. I am especially disturbed by the high number of hormone disruptors. This may potentially cause a lot of health issues if I eat chicken thighs too often. I think we should be obtaining more information about our food choices before buying them. From now on, I will try to either purchase more organic meats or find out more information to see which options are safest.

  1. It's amazing to discover just how far substances such as pesticide residue can make it in the food chain. At the same time, it's sad how we fail to see that we are contaminating our own bodies with the substances we use to protect what we eat.

  2. This really changes the way I will buy and eat meat products, or products in general. I think I am going to start looking more into organic foods or buying from farmers markets etc.
